Alexander T. Whalley
Bio
Alexander Whalley is a Professor of Economics and Business at the University of Calgary . He also serves as a Research Fellow at the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies and a Lab Economist at the Creative Destruction Lab - Rockies. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland – College Park and has been a visiting scholar at the London School of Economics, Stanford University, the University of California - Berkeley, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (USA), National Bureau of Economic Research (USA) , Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada), National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (Canada) and the Alberta Major Innovation Fund (Canada).
Research Interests
Professor Whalley's research interests are in labor economics, macroeconomics, economics of innovation, and urban economics . His work has been published in the Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economics and Statistics, American Economic Journal - Economic Policy, and the Journal of Public Economics, among other outlets.
Teaching Interests
Professor Whalley has taught Ph.D., MBA, and Undergraduate courses in Econometrics, Labor Economics, Urban Economics, and Real Estate. He received a campus-wide teaching award at the University of Calgary in 2020.
